Comment on Manual therapy as lozenge by Keith Walker.

Great post. As a chiropractor who was trained in the certainty of the effectiveness of manual therapy (+25yrs ago) it has been a bit of a slog to get my thick head around. It is the unpacking of certainty in MT and health care in general that leads to a more balanced approach – even one that can suck a lozenge in the full knowledge that it probably is not changing anything in your throat. The trick is to be honest to the patient and most importantly to yourself about it. I still use MT but always tell my patients of its actual worth (ie minuscule effect size). They generally dont give a stuff and say pass the lozenge!
