Comment on How To Practice Placebo-Based Physiotherapy by haroon.

Hi Chris
Coming back to read this after a couple of years. Have returned to physio now after long time, and still hear comments relating to anything placebo as a taboo kind of phenomenon to be avoided. Strange hey?
I guess that interlinks with the idea of Ev.biased.practice.
This ‘tyrrany’ also used to annoy me 15 years ago. Hear less about it in the work place now, but people generally still seem to hold to those views.

With placebo, I heard that apparently doctor’s drug catalogues used to have a large section (1/3?) of cheap placebo pills. No doubt no longer existing due to lack of profits but in the name of EBP.
In the book ‘the holographic universe’ the author talks about studies where the presciber and not only the recipient was blind to the fact that placebos were being used. They found that the placebo effect is even more powerful when the prescriber isn’t aware!

Im hoping to do a presentation on some of the EBP ideas in the articles you referenced in your other post. I remember as a student, i saw a physio manager shut down all these activies for mental health patients because there was no ‘evidence’. Madness. (I might have told you that couple of years ago when I was first reading your blogs, sorry if im repeating 🙂 )
